The I-CLEEN database
The I-CLEEN project database contains educational resources useful to anybody willing to realize an interactive lesson about Climate and Energy themes.
However, the range of contents is much wider than that, as it can be seen in the topics organization, and makes reference to the ESS (Earth System Sciences).
The resources database was created to connect with other similar databases, composed by educational resources. For this purpose, it fulfils the standards established by the Dublin Core Metadata Initiative.
The database is managed by a web platform that also allows to do the editing, to administrate the users and design the web pages in just one web environment.
This software is called LifeRay, is open-source and has been personalized and implemented purposely for the I-CLEEN project by the Ymir srl firm in Trento.
Here it follows a little list of the main sources we constantly refer to in the administration of the service and its functionalities:
- Web projects similar to I-CLEEN studied during the gateway creation: LRE (Learning Resource Exchange), DLESE (Digital Library for Earth System Education), OERCommons (Open Educational Resources).
- Projects realized with the purpose to support the team during the process of creation of information gateways as the I-CLEEN project database DESIRE(Development of a European Service for Information on Research and Education), SPreaD (Strategic Project Management Tool-Kit for Creating Digital Literacy Initiatives)
- Papers and notifications for the realization of metadata and controlled terms: DCMI (Dublin Core Metadata Initiative), LOM (Learning Object Metadata), ETB (European Tresaury Browser)
- Projects having been used for consultancy activities besides the realization of the service: INDIRE (Agenzia Nazionale per lo Sviluppo dell'Autonomia Scolastica), OERCommons (Open Educational Resources)
